Has anyone ever told you that you don't sit straight on your horse?

Do you suffer from pain in any of your joints?

Have you ever thought what effect this can have on your horse?

When we ride our weight should be evenly distributed through our seat bones so that the load through the horses back is spread equally. However, if one side of your body is weaker or tighter then you will have a tendancy to sit in a crooked position. Research has shown that increased weight and an uneven distribution through the horses back can cause increased extension of the spine (De Cocq et al. 2004). This could subsequently cause increased muscle tension and spasm. Physiotherapy assessments for both the horse and the rider can ensure that normal muscle balance is restored.
